Drum Circle Facilitation as a Therapeutic Tool

Drum circle facilitation is prevalent across the world as a tool for building community, communication, corporate team building, and general health/wellness. Drum circle facilitation can also be adapted and applied very effectively with various clinical populations as a means toward therapeutic growth.

Speaker Biography:
Heather Hodorowski, MS, MT-BC founder and director of ‘Inana Rhythms’, earned a degree in Music Therapy in 2000. Heather served as a board certified music therapist and Music Therapy Coordinator at a large, multi-hospital media center outside of Chicago for nearly 10 years and has vast experience using music and drumming as a therapeutic intervention with multiple populations. She specializes in working with medical populations including oncology, cardiac care, intensive care, medical/surgical and psychiatric care. Heather received an MS in Community counseling and is a Licensed Professional Counselor In Training (LPC-IT) in the state of Wisconsin. Heather has received extensive training in drum circle facilitation and is currently a Village Music Circles Certified Drum Circle Facilitator and serves as Interim President of the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild (DCFG) Heather has had the opportunity to facilitate drum circles with numerous groups including children/teens at grief/bereavement Camp Erin, burn survivors at the World Burn Congress sponsored by the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, military Gold Star family members, a Trauma Informed Care grant project with school children, seniors, and individuals with mental health needs. Heather currently works as the Manager of Experiential Therapy at a large behavioral health hospital in Milwaukee, WI. It is Heather’s desire to share her passion for drumming and drum circles with people of all ages, all backgrounds, and all abilities so that they too can experience the power of rhythm to build community, enhance connection, and facilitate change.
