MSU Call to Action
Your support has been overwhelming! Please see the below update on the Save the Michigan State University Music Therapy Degree Program events.
Then SEE THE ATTACHED for 1 to 4 options of support you can provide NOW. We still need your help.
THE FIRST MUSIC THERAPY DEGREE PROGRAM IN THE WORLD (EST. 1944) MUST NOT BE DISBANDED.
PREVIOUSLY: Individual MSU administrative staff, including Dean Forger from the MSU College of Music, set forth actions that resulted in a moratorium on music therapy student admissions this summer. Prior to the moratorium the College of Music systematically began turning away prospective music therapy students and cancelling auditions. The administration is pushing through the formal disbandment of the program, perhaps as soon as THIS WEEK.
UPDATE: Thank you to all who participated in last week’s Call-to-Action. We have received copies of many effective letters of support that were sent to the MSU Board of Trustees, Provost, and the President. In addition, thank you to all that sent copies of their letters to the Lansing Area news media. Yesterday the MSU music therapy supporters held a PRESS CONFERENCE lead by Ginny Anderson, MT MSU Graduate Student, and Phyllis Shance, daughter of the late Robert Unkefer. Several TV and news media attended and ran stories all day yesterday, with some coming out today. We believe your efforts helped demonstrate strong community interest in and support of music therapy.
Tomorrow (THURSDAY, OCT. 29, 2009) supporters will hold an all day RALLY at the MSU Administration Building. Please join them in person or via the internet (see the attached). FRIDAY, OCT. 30 the MSU Board of Trustee will address the proposed closure of the music therapy program. Please show our solidarity by participating in ONE OR ALL of the attached EASY ACTIONS.
Thank you!
