The presenters will discuss diagnoses and scenarios for pediatric patients with acute and chronic pain in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Through group discussion, demonstration, and experiential sessions, participants will learn a variety of Music Therapy methods to be empowered to use within their own programs. Gina Kelly, MT-BC is currently employed by Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN with the department of Psychiatry and Psychology providing Music Therapy services for inpatient children, adolescents, and adults. She has been working as a clinician for over 14 years with a variety of populations, including; intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer’s, medical and hospice. Gina also provides Music Therapy for Mayo Clinic’s Pediatric Pain Rehabilitation Clinic working as part of a multi-disciplinary team using a cognitive-behavioral approach for treatment. The PRC provides outpatient services to patients with chronic pain.
Christina Wood, MA, MT-BC is the Founder & Clinical Director of Healing Rhythms Music Therapy, LLC. She has over ten years experience working in the medical field, much of which has focused on pediatric pain management. Christina has been fortunate to implement several medical music therapy programs and work alongside experts in pain management, ranging from occupational therapists, psychologists, and physicians. She is passionate about promoting holistic approaches to healthcare, including music-based relaxation for both pediatric and adult patients to help manage acute and chronic pain and anxiety.
